Homeopathy was developed over 200 years ago as a distinct medical system by a German medical doctor, Samuel Hahnemman, M.D. In 1790 this doctor based this new form of medicine on the concept of "like cures like". In other words, a substance that causes symptoms in a healthy person can also cure those same symptoms in a sick person. The term homeopathy is derived from "homeo" or similar and "pathy" meaning disease. Homeopathic remedies are derived from the plant, mineral, and animal kingdoms and are prepared in various dilutions. Homeopathic remedies are available in health food stores and work well for headaches and the common cold for example. A prescription is not needed due to its safety and lack of serious side effects commonly seen with drugs.

For more serious conditions it is best to seek the advice of a health care professional who has extensive training in homeopathy, such as Dr. Scott. Dr. Scott has an advanced diploma in homeopathy from the British Institute of Homeopathy and has studied in Germany with medical doctors that specialize in complex homeopathy.

All homeopathic remedies are regulated by the FDA and are legal in all 50 states in the United States. The remedies are listed in the Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia USA and are manufactured under strict regulations by homeopathic pharmacies. Homeopathy was included in the federal law in 1938 when the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act was enacted and passed.

Homeopathy was brought into the 20th century with the development of a new and scientific approach to the principles of homeopathy. A German physician, Hans Reckeweg, M.D. applied the modern sciences of biology, pathology, immunology, enzymology, endocrinology, and toxicology with the basic principles and laws of homeopathy. Dr. Reckeweg called this new form of homeopathy, "Homotoxicology". Homo refers to homo sapiens or humans and toxicology refers to toxins and their effects on the human body.

The human body and its systems were designed to maintain a state of balance. We constantly interact with our environment and it has become increasingly toxic or polluted. These toxins affect the human organism and our bodies must eliminate these toxins in order to maintain good health. Symptoms so often seen with a particular disease are nothing more than an expression of the body's defense systems to eliminate these deadly toxins. Many complex formulas designed by Dr. Reckeweg help facilitate the removal of these harmful toxins. The remedies help restore damaged enzyme systems and reprogram the immune and nervous systems to function correctly. Dr. Reckeweg developed a Biological Flow System which allows one to see the progression or regression of disease based on the body's ability to eliminate these toxins.

What makes homeopathy unique and effective is that it stimulates healing and brings about balance of the various biological systems at a deeper level without the dangerous side effects of allopathic drugs. Homeopathic practitioners understand that it is not the disease that needs to be treated but the individual person. It is not the external factor that is the true cause of disease, but the person's susceptibility to their environment.

Homeopathy has over 200 years of clinical use worldwide and has an impressive history of safety. Homeopathic medicine is truly gentle, effective, and safe for infants as well as the elderly.

Homeopathic remedies are derived from the Plant, Mineral, and Animal kingdoms. The vast majority of remedies are from plant sources. For descriptive purposes I will give an example of a homeopathic remedy from each of the kingdoms as well as indications for each.

Plant: Tobacco: Coldness of the limbs, trembling, angina pectoris, migraine headaces, vertigo.

Mineral: Zinc metallicum: Occipital & frontal headaches, restless leg syndrome, sensitivity to noise, vertigo, peripheral neuropathy.

Animal: Tarantula: Restlessness, trembling & jerking of the extremities, Parkinson's, restless leg syndrome.
